Amentum is the U.S. government services company that spun off from AECOM.1 It is part of the team managing and operating the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory2 and has performed readiness assessment at the Los Alamos National Laboratory,3 responsible for nuclear weapons design and maintenance.4 Amentum also has an outstanding contract to support missile testing for U.S. nuclear weapon programmes.5 The company is also involved in nuclear waste storage at several facilities in the U.S. and UK, as well as environmental remediation.6 When launched as an independent company in 2020, Amentum became privately held, with the equity firms American Securities and Lindsay Goldberg as equal partners.7 However, in November 2023, Amentum announced a merger agreement with Jacobs Solutions’ Critical Mission Solutions (CMS) and Cyber & Intelligence (C&I) Businesses, where the combined organization will be a publicly traded company.8 Both Jacobs Solutions and Amentum are rumoured to be among the competing candidates for the new management contract of the Pantex Plant9 after the U.S. Department of Energy had terminated the contract award to Nuclear Production One, a joint venture between Amentum and Fluor, in 2021.10
