Cray, Inc received a $600 million contract to build an exascale high-performance supercomputer—El Capitan— by 2022.1 The system will be built to assess US nuclear warheads’ viability and reliability without nuclear testing. The system will provide new and faster 3D simulation and modelling capabilities. It will also offer advanced computational tools for scientists and weapon designers to study the use of new materials and components.
